:) [29 Feb 2012|02:30pm]

Hi, all! I discovered this community a few months ago and I'd like to share some of the religious/spiritual themed icons I've made. I see there are still a few people watching this community, so hopefully these appeal to some of you.

More here. Please credit when using.

The above link goes to a post in my icon journal where I have all my religious icons listed, including those above. This post will be updated with new icons whenever a religious icon makes its way into one of my icon batches, so if you check back periodically, you should see more religious icons.

Young, Hip, and Muslim? [22 Aug 2006|12:06am]

Salaam Aleykoom!

I'm a young American Muslim who is sick and tired of only hearing about Islam in headlines. So I've started a new line of clothing and gifts that is geared towards young, modern Muslims who are ready to make their own headlines. Some political, some funny, some religious, and lots of ARABIC! So check it out, please spread the word if you dig it, and check in periodically for new designs.

And if you like it, WEAR IT WITH PRIDE!

question [25 Nov 2005|09:45pm]

hey everyone. I am not a LDS member, but I'm writing today because I have a question. Well, more than one question, but I hope this is something you guys can help me clarify or answer.

I am a graduate student studying the profession in mental health. Recently, I've attended this conference where I met a woman who was a LDS member. To make long story short, something clicked in me, and she was the most amazing woman I've ever met. I have strong feelings for this woman, and my heart just would not let me forget this.

first is the obvious dilemma. I'm a non-denominational Christian. I've church hopped all of my life from Baptist to Jehovah's witnesses and yes, even LDS churches and studied with a few sets of elders and sisters. In short, I suppose I never truly found my calling yet, so I have yet to be baptized by any church whatsoever.

I won't deny the fact that I'm a sinner, and I certainly make my share of mistakes. I may not know much, but what I do know is that I'm willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary for her. I can honestly say that I have never done that for anyone, nor have i felt this much conviction about something. I find it ironic that I could be so drawn to someone whom I randomy met in a coference in a remote town. Is it realistic? probably not. She lives in a city far away but I do know it feels right regardless.

Any thoughts, feedbacks or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and if anyone knows a Jeremy in Utah who's 6'4" in his twenties please let me know.

LJ Icons celebrating Pope John Paul II [01 Apr 2005|02:17pm]

[ mood | sad ]

Skip the next paragraph if you don't want to read my rambling and are just looking for the icons.

I'm very conflicted in my feelings right now.  Half of me wants to keep hoping for a miracle, hoping that the Pope will recover.  The other half of me knows that he has accepted death and is on his way out of this world of sadness and illness to rest with God.  Rationally, it seems like its only a matter of time before he goes, but I still don't want to believe it.  But if he can face possible death with such faith and dignity, I feel badly that I'm unable to face losing our Pope in the same way.  I'm not sure any of this makes sense, I'm really emotional this morning.  Its funny; I've never met the Pope, or even seen him in person, but I feel like I know him well.  Whenever I've had doubts about God or my religion, the state of the Catholic Church and of the world, etc., all I had to do was look at his serene loving face and I knew that God exists.  He's been the Pope my entire life, and its something I took for granted.  Now I can't help but wonder if I'll have the same confidence in and love for a new Pope.  But whether I do or don't, I know in my heart that Pope John Paul II is special, and that I'm blessed to have been alive during his papacy.

Anyway, there are 6 icons located on my webpage here: http://www.freewebs.com/cestlavenus/Icons4.htm. That's a direct link to a blank page with nothing but the icons, so don't worry about loading times.  I'm sorry that I can't give you a preview, but my user icon is one of them.

Please take them and use them; it helped me feel a bit better to make them, and I want to spread that around.  And please comment if you do take them, I'd like to talk to people about the Pope's illness because people should stick together at times like this.  I'd also love to know if the icons mean anything to you, because they mean a lot to me (although that's probably because I made them - it was really a labor of love, and it did me a lot of good to think about the Pope and what he meant to me while I did it.)

Crossposted quite a bit because I want to share these with as many people as possible... Sorry, I but think most people will understand.

Random Icons [10 Nov 2004|11:14am]

Note: I use fake lj-cuts to my journal and usually post various icons in one update, so there are icons that aren't religion oriented. However, I thought some of you may be interested in my zodiac icons, so I went ahead and posted this.

A handful of random icons (including Harry Potter and Zodiac icons!)  Comment, Credit, Feedback appreciated.  Requests also welcome!

I just made this icon. Since Love is a virtue within almost every religion, I figured it was appropiate to post here... as well as the fact that it is a celtic heart (so it has somewhat of a pagan/celtic flair to it). :D Hope you like.

Welcome to the group! I'm Mary, your lovely moderator, and I am so excited to have started this community!

I want to share the true message of tolerance. Tolerance does not mean shutting up other religions; it merely means that we get along and we are friends despite our different beliefs.

Icons are a popular way to show one's feelings about something. Religion is something many people feel strongly about, and I want people to come together and share a passion of making icons for their religions.

All who join will be welcome to share their icons for their religion. There are many parallels between religions and things that we can all grasp from all religions and put to our own lives. By doing so, we learn tolerance and love for others.

Through this community, I hope to create some stability between religions instead of the hatred that seems to be wedged between some of us.

That being said, I do not want to see any hate icons. I do not want to see negative icons towards any religion. Go ahead and make humorous icons about one's religion, but do not make it derogatory.

For example, I'm LDS... in slang, that would be a mormon. I don't want to see anti-mormon icons. That isn't nice to anyone and doesn't show your religion in a nice light. I don't want to see anti-pagan, anti-christian, anti-jewish, anti-islam.. or anti-anything. This isn't an "anti" community. This is a "pro" community.

So come... share! Be friends.
Feel free to explain what significance goes into your icons, as long as it's under a cut. If you have more than 4 icons, please put those under a cut.

Play nice! Have fun!
